Thanks for posting Kerry.
Oatesy was a legend in the mine surveying community who forgot more than a lot of us will know.

Keith Oates - RIP was created by Kerry Matthews
Many of the older mine surveying fraternity connected with Mount Morgan and the Bowen Basin coal mines would have known Keith Oates who recently passed away (August 22, 2022). Keith (or simply Oatesy as he was known) was a dedicated mine surveyor through and through having mentored many of the then promising young up and coming mine surveyors through Mount Morgan mine and as many would know most of these surveyors filtered out into the coal operations as each new Bowen Basin mine opened through the 60's and 70's.
Keith's last gig was at Saraji Mine where he was Senior Surveyor in a survey office that was distinctly staffed with Mount Morgan expats. RIP - Oatesy
