One of the issues identified as a concern to mining surveyors in NSW last year was a lack of certainty in whether a person qualified to be a “survey assistant” as defined under the Board’s Combined Determination.
The Determination requires the practical experience of a survey assistant to be acceptable to the Board. Given that if the practical experience was not acceptable to the Board a different level of supervision would have been required placed the Registered Surveyor and the assistant potentially in breach of the Act. It was identified that a mechanism was required to give all parties clarity in their position which is now in place in the determination.
