The AIMS Surveying prizes for 2023 have been awarded to two students from the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ).
Congratulations goes to Chi Chun So (Bachelor of Surveying Technology) and Kelvin Siew (Bachelor of Spatial Science (Honours)).
AIMS is proud to support students in spatial technology and will continue to provide incentive and reward for the next generation of surveyors.
The following impact statements have by these two recipients.
Chi Chun So - Bachelor of Surveying Technology
"I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for being selected as a recipient of the Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors (AIMS) Prize in Surveying from the Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors. It is an honour to be chosen for this prestigious award, and I am genuinely appreciative of the support you have provided to further my education and career in mine surveying.
I am an international student from Hong Kong with 17 years of experience as a surveyor. Motivated to enhance my career prospects, I made the decision to pursue further studies in Australia two years ago. Having spent about two years studying here, I have developed a deep appreciation for the educational environment and the opportunities it presents. I am currently employed as a surveyor at NorthGroup Consulting and recently registered as a graduate surveyor. I am committed to a long-term stay in Australia, with the intention of developing and advancing my career here.
Once again, thank you for your generosity and belief in my abilities. I am committed to making the most of this opportunity."
Kelvin Siew - Bachelor of Spatial Science (Honours)
"My name is Kelvin Siew from Malaysia, and I have been studying for a Bachelor of Spatial Science (Honours) Major in Surveying at USQ since 2021 and have recently graduated. I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for awarding me the AIMS Prize in Surveying. As someone deeply passionate about surveying, especially as I was born into a surveying family (both my dad and brother are surveyors), my ultimate goal is to become a registered mine surveyor.
This prize not only provides financial support but also serves as significant encouragement for me to continue pursuing my dreams with greater dedication. Receiving this prize greatly alleviates the financial burden associated with my education, particularly as an international student. It motivates me to attend relevant courses and conferences to improve my surveying knowledge. I am truly honored to be a recipient of your generosity. Your support plays a crucial role in the success of students like myself. It is not just financial aid; it is a morale booster that reminds us that our hard work is recognized and valued. Your kindness is a beacon of hope and an inspiration, encouraging us to give our best and contribute positively to our society in the future.
My sincerest thanks for your generosity and support. I am committed to making the most of this opportunity you have provided and hope to make you proud as an AIMS Prize recipient. Thank you for your unwavering support and belief in the potential of students."
